Best Friends in the Snow
by Angela Shelf Medearis
illustrated by Ken Wilson Max

On a bright, winter day, two friends bundle up in hats, coats, and mittens and head outdoors to play in the snow. Among other things, they go sledding down a hill, make a snowman and snow angels, have a snowball fight, and catch snowflakes in the air.

Readers discover, as these two friends do, that sharing good times together with friends is very special. Included in the book are six pages of puzzle activities and an insert of eight pairs of picture/word game cards that add to the fun and learning experience.

This is a good basic Guided Reading Level C / DRA Level 4.  It seems a bit harder than that level, we think, since there are definitely some words that kids at this level will struggle with -- definitely not all words are easy decodable ones.  BUT, still there's a lot of repeated text and picture clues so that helps and makes it appropriate for Kindergarteners and 1st graders.

Below are the first three spreads from inside this cute but simple book.
