If your kids are fans of the Magic School Bus videos, you may want to see if the books are equally well received. There are a number of series books about space -- two picture books and three 'chapter-ish' books.
Our favorite of these books is Lost in the Solar System. (That's the book we've shown in the sample pages below.) School Library Journal called this book "a first-class introduction to the planets, fine for pleasure or purpose reading."
