The New Bear at School

The New Bear at School
by Carrie Weston
illustrated by Tim Warnes

It's hard being the new kid at school, especially when you're a big bear like Boris!  Poor Boris tries to be gentle, but his sharp-tooth smile scares his classmates. But in the end, the animals discover that they love having Boris on their side after all.

Booklist gave the book a positive review, ending their review by saying, "For preschool and primary- grade teachers looking for stories that encourage empathy for 'the new kid,' here's an appealing picture book to share with their classes." School Library Journal's review, on the other hand, was less favorable, but we liked the book and so did our students.

Here's a sample page from inside this book. Poor Boris...he just wants to make friends at his new school, but instead of making friends, he just ends up scaring his classmates away. Luckily, the tides turn when Boris is able to 'save the day.'  Adorable illustrations, eh?
