Below are sample pages from inside Animals on Board, a level 2 MathStart book written by Stuart Murphy and illustrated by R.W. Alley. Such adorable illustrations, and trust it--it makes for a great early addition lesson. Just cover the equations with post its. Then read the scenarios in each spread aloud, and have kids formulate an equation. Lastly, remove the post its and have kids check if they got it right. Fun. :) Here's an example of one equation presented:
