Thomas Jefferson: A Picture Book Biography
by James Cross Giblin
illustrated by Michael Dooling
Jefferson's life from childhood on is portrayed in this brief introduction to his life. Giblin's writing is clear, easy to read, and believable, and Dooling's dramatic impressionistic illustrations show 18th century Virginia furnishings, clothing, and daily life, as well as the main events and achievements in Jefferson's life.
We are big fans of all Giblin's books, but in this case it's the illustrations that really moved us. Stunning! School Library Journal called this book "a high-quality biography" and Booklist even went so far as to say: "Historically accurate and visually handsome, this is the best Jefferson biography available for young students."
