The Story of Money

by Betsy Maestro
illustrated by Giulio Maestro

If you would like a book about the history of money for slightly older children (Gr 3+), this is a good pick.

It's a bit dry, but is a solid reference title because does cover quite a bit of ground regarding the evolution of money and commerce (from early barter systems up to our modern paper/coin systems).

Publisher's Weekly ended their review with: "This volume will be useful in classrooms and libraries for its noteworthy effort to place a concept within historical contexts." And in a starred review, School Library Journal called it "a windfall for whole-language classrooms and for nonfiction pleasure readers."
