The Great Expedition of
Lewis and Clark

Subtitled "by Private Reubin Field, Member of the Corps of Discovery"
by Judith Edwards

This is a fictional picture book journal of the expedition, based on real accounts and using the name of an actual member of the Corps of Discovery--Private Reubin Field.

In his 'journal', Field explains the purpose of the expedition, recalls the hazards they experienced, and describes the indigenous people with whom they had encounters.

School Library Journal said "the narrative is entertaining and lively" and the "watercolor paintings are effective whether depicting the majesty of the land or the humor of chasing down a prairie dog."
