Missing Mittens

Another cute and educational Math Start book. In this story, Farmer Bill is missing one of his mittens. Rather than an even number of two mittens, he only has one. When he searches the barn, he finds that the cow is missing a mitten on his udder. Instead of four, the cow has an odd number--three. As he continues his search, he finds more animals with odd numbers of mittens when they should have even numbers. Where are the missing mittens?

We love Brian Karas' charming illustrations!  SLJ said "This well-executed title works well with or without the math." But we have to agree with Booklist, who said the book "will enhance math lesson" but is "more successful as a teaching tool than a story."

The author includes a double-page spread at the end with suggestions for enhancing the learning when reading the book and activity suggestions to build on the learning. And, for additional ways to use this book in teaching, click here:  Missing Mittens lesson ideas, etc

Peek Inside
Here's a page from the inside of the book---to give you an idea of the adorable illustrations!!! So does Booklist. In their review they called the illustrations "delightfully droll" and commended their ability to "clarify the concepts [and] give personality to Farmer Bill and his barnyard crew."
