and Lexile reading levels, and more

In If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (the book that started the series), an unseen narrator "warns" what will happen of you give a mouse a cookie. The mouse in question is an energetic and charming but demanding little guy who meets each new favor with a new request. (ie: "If you give a  shopping cart   To buy this

mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk. When you give
him the milk, he'll probably ask for a straw...")  The little boy in the story is run ragged meeting all the increasing requests, and when the story comes full circle to another cookie request, the poor little boy is exhausted. It's an adorable story and kids get a kick out of this audacious little mouse.
